Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to walk the Red Carpet in Paris

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be gracing the Cannes Film Festival this year when she walks on the Red Carpet for L’Oreal Paris. The Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 11 to May 22, 2011. Aishwarya will be accompanied by two other beautiful women from the film industry, namely Freida Pinto and Sonam Kapoor.

L’Oreal Paris and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have a very lengthy association with each other. They have been working in tandem for the past ten years, while the cosmetic company has been the official make-up partner of the world-famous fest for at least 14 years now.

Aishwarya will walk the prestigious Red Carpet on May 11, when the opening ceremony of the festival will be held. Ash had also walked the carpet last year as well. Well, why speak only of the last year; Aishwarya has been walking the Red Carpet for the last ten years without fail.

It is the first year for both Freida Pinto and Sonam Kapoor to represent L’Oreal Paris at the Cannes Film Festival. Sonam will walk the Red Carpet on May 15. Freida Pinto, on the other hand, will represent L’Oreal Paris at the amFAR (The American Foundation for AIDS Research), where there will be dinner and after-party on May 19.

Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan ends third season

The popular chat show hosted by Karan Johar, Koffee With Karan has ended its third season this year. The final episode of the show was telecast. Understandably, Karan Johar was pretty emotional at the last moment. He said that he would always remember the kaffeine kick that he got during the programme.

On the night of Sunday, this is what Karan Johar had to say about his programme, which he tweeted on his Twitter page, “KWK3 bids farewell tonight... thank you for all the love people... it has been a steaming ride!! Will miss this kaffeine kick tremendously!!!”

Why this chat show garnered tremendously popularity was because of the fact that, many actors and actresses chose the couch of Koffee With Karan to fire at their opponents. There were cold wars as well as open taunts fired at the other party.

Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor had one such famous brawl when they were the guests on the show. Their ‘fighting’ continued even many days later too. The pair of Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone was one such much talked about pair on the show. The episode involving Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee was also a popular one.

Mausam star Sonam Kapoor hospitalized while returning from Dubai

A hectic work schedule landed Sonam Kapoor in the hospital when she was returning from Dubai. On returning to India, she was taken to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri. The workload was too much for the young girl to carry and finally she had to give way to fatigue and exhaustion. She was working nonstop, almost without any rest and that is what prompted her health to deteriorate.
Her hysteric work schedule included flying to Jaipur for the endorsement of a luxury sedan. When that was completed, she returned to shoot her film Mausam, which does not seem to meet its end yet. She then took her first flight to Dubai to promote her upcoming film Thank You. All these engagements came almost back to back and without any rest even to think of.
On her return journey, she had high fever and the fatigue was so bad that she almost collapsed. It has been round-the-clock working for Sonam for quite a few weeks now.
Now what she needs is a complete rest, both mentally and physically. She has been advised to remain hospitalized until the weekend. Whatever, a forced rest will do a world of good for Sonam!

Madhuri Dixit not to play Sonam Kapoor’s mother

Madhuri Dixit has made a comeback after her marriage. She is a judge at the dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikh Laja’. However, a film offer has come her way from to play Sonam Kapoor’s mother. Who else would offer her the role of Sonam’s mother other than her daddy, Anil Kapoor?

That’s right. Anil Kapoor is busy with the remake of Mark Water’s film ‘Freaky Friday’. Anil Kapoor has been Madhuri’s buddy for many years now. Both of them have dished out super hit movies in their days. So, she could not instantly refuse his offer.

However, it was not a matter of refusing a role either. In reality, Madhuri was hesitant to accept the role offered by her good old friend. What Madhuri had in her mind was playing a mother to a girl in her 20s. But Madhuri found it really tough to turn down the offer from Anil, with whom she has had very cordial and warm relations.

Madhuri Dixit Nene then found out a way out of her uncertainty. She first decided to watch the original film ‘Freaky Friday’. Until then she herself kept her decision wrapped up. When she watched the film, she made up her mind not to play Sonam’s mom.

Currently Anil Kapoor is in South Africa. Madhuri will convey her decision to him once he is back. But we doubt, if he is still ignorant of Madhuri’s negation!

Have A Look At The New Age Sonam Kapoor

Saawariya

As I sat in the movie theater nearing intermission of Saawariya, I gasped in delight.



"Psst", I whispered to my mom,"I think I know where this is going."




Her face looked a bit puzzled, and she didn't ask me to elaborate, but there wasn't time. Our movie theater doesn't give actual intermissions during Bollywood films.


I didn't care- If Sanjay Leela Bhansali was going where I expected him to go, I sure didn't want to ruin it for her. After all, we were in for a real treat.

And then, as the movie "unfolded" I started to realize I was wrong in my prediction...and then, the horrifying reality sunk in...



My imagination had just created a better ending than one of the best directors in Bollywood had.

(Just so you know, I have to discuss the ending if I'm going to write about this movie...in case you haven't seen it and want to be "surprised".)

Don't get me wrong...it wasn't that I didn't like Saawariya...It really is a beautiful movie with charming music and enchanting sets. Its just that the ending left me feeling unsatisfied. I know its based on an Arabian folktale and all, but it just seemed like Salman Khan's appearance at the bridge at the end was supposed to be some breathless moment for the viewer...and I was like, "That's it?" Come on, this is Bollywood...I was expecting a major twist...and it never came...I know its the understated plots that get the real awards and recognition, but where was the element of suspense/surprise/or even romance?

Having said that, there were some things that I really loved about the movie. For one, Ranbir Kapoor.



He looks like a mime in most of his promo pics, but I can assure you, he is way cuter onscreen. He has this amazing magnetic presence that was obvious as soon as he sprinted into the first song. For a second I forgot that I was missing Shahrukh Khan's movie to see this(we only get one Bollywood movie at a time at my local theater). The towel scene didn't hurt, either.
Another unforgettable character in Saawariya was Rani Mukerjee's prostitute Gulab.
I always find Rani so classy and poised in her films, but she was a natural in this feisty "bad girl" role. And she really proved those critics who bashed her in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag wrong...She can play a prostitute! I loved her in this movie, and her charming smile lit up the screen-as always.



While I don't speak Hindi, I am addicted to the soundtrack of Saawariya. My favorites are "Thode Badmash","Jab Se Tere Naina",the title song, and of course Rani's "Chhabeela".

Salman Khan hasn't grown on me quite yet, and his role in this film certainly didn't help. I had a hard time stomaching him as Sakina's true love. I actually found it kind of creepy because I read an article where Sonam Kapoor said Salman was like an uncle type to her in real life and had been a friend of the family since she could remember. All I could think of in their "love" scenes was yuck.


And I know you're probably curious...what would my version of the second half have been? Well, I'm really not even close to being as brilliant as SLB is(never mind the smart remark I made in the beginning of this post), but I was thinking something along the lines of this...That letter that Sakina wanted Ranbir to deliver to her lover not being a love letter at all..her life was in danger or she was being held captive or something. And the letter contained some kind of vital information that she needed to get to its receiver in order to set her free and allow her to be with Ranbir. When Ranbir destroyed it, he unknowingly destroyed any chance of them being together. I don't know. Maybe its a bit melodramatic and cliched, but these are the things I love about Bollywood. To me that would have been a bit more interesting than the lover just appearing with the letter really having no real significance at all... other than to show Ranbir's unfavorable side.



Sonam Kapoor has one of the most symmetrically beautiful faces I have ever seen, but I can't remember being too swayed by her performance. For me, it was hard to root for her character, because she was breaking Ranbir's heart, the character I found so easy to love.

Although Saawariya was a bit disappointing, the music, Ranbir and Rani made up for it all. And, like a true Bollywood fan, I will still be purchasing this DVD when it comes out!
