Rajni a Cult Star?

"Not so Cool" article from BBC. The initial part of the article portraying India as a movie-mad country...Oh come on! India is definitely more than that!
Second part of the article features Rajni as a working class hero. So sad that they were unaware of movies such as "Aarilirundhu Arubhadhu Varai", "Mullum Malarum","Ragavendra","Bairavi", "Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri","Jhonny" and a lot others where he stood as a character artist.
"But for his adoring fans, he carries a profile similar to that of a rap star - a bling master in outlandish costumes, whose chutzpah and appeal transcends the ghettos of Tamil Nadu."
Yes, we adore him, that part is definitely true!

Sivaji Case in Court!

Sudalai K. Jayarajadevan who is an assistant director moved to court claiming that he penned the script for Sivaji - The Boss!
The Fifth City Civil court issued a notice to Sivaji’s director Shankar and three others and posted the hearing in a week. In his petition he claimed that me met director Shankar's Manager in 2005 and discussed the script with him. When he later tried to contact the manager, he evaded him, Jayarajadevan alleged.
He finally managed to meet the manager and was promised a meeting with the director. The meeting did not materialize as the manager did not show up, the petition said.
The petitioner said he learned to his surprise that his story was used for the film Sivaji. On June 6, he contacted the director's office and was told that he was away in Canada.
Jayarajadevan claimed if the film's screening was not stopped, he would suffer irreparable loss, inconvenience and hardship and sought an injunction to restrain the screening of the film till disposal of the suit!

Rajnikanth meets Amitabh Bachan

This happened recently during a private screening of Sivaji - The BOSS. Rajnikanth invited Big B for the screening. Previously Rajni was invited for IIFA awards by IIFA ambassador Amitabh Bachan himself, but Rajni couldn't make it due to Sivaji's release. In spite of recent comparisons between the two, they share a mutual admiration for each other!

15 Minutes Thakkali Thokku

Ingredients:
Ripe Tomatoes : 2
Oil : 3 Teaspoons
Mustard seeds and urud dal : 1 Teaspoon
Salt to taste
Dried ground nut : 2 Teaspoons
Chili Powder : 1 Teaspoon
Servings : 2
Cooking Procedure:
Grind tomatoes into a fine paste with litte water. Heat oil in a kadai. Fry dried ground nut, mustard seeds and urud dal. When mustard seeds splutter add the ground tomato puree. Add salt and chili powder and allow the mixture to boil until water gets absorbed. This would take approximately 15 minutes. Yummy thakkali thokku is ready to serve!
Additional Information:

• Goes well with chappathi, rice, idly and dosa.
• Can be refrigerated for a week.
• Curry leaves can be added for richness.

The initial bit is similar to Pudhu Vellai Mazhai from Roja. Other than that the music is quite compelling! Yet another melody from Sadana Sargam! The flute composition after the pallavi is outstanding! "Akkam pakkam" is truly a diamond stone on Ajith's Kireedom.
Vizhiyinil
Singers : Sonu Nigam, Swetha
Good mix of Violin and Veena. Lyrics are catchy, especially the pallavi! Sonu Nigam's voice makes the song more meaningful! Another great melody and is sure to rock for many years!
Theme Music:
Rhythms quite well with movie's tempo. It is kind of lengthy(4:24), editing the middle part would have made it even more catchy! The initial part is mesmerizing!

Nothing new except for the lyrics. It sounds like a story narration, could have been a bit more racy!
Vilaiyadu Vilaiyadu

Just another average song! I think lyricists should move beyond the age old "Thalaiyirukkum podhu vaal ada koodathu" monologue! Ajith is a star performer and he definitely deserves more than this!

Similar to Poongatrile from Uyire! This song captures pathos with good lyrics.

Minus : Lacks a racy number, Greatly influenced by A.R.Rahman's music!

Chandramukhi 804th day Function : Follow-up

Chandramukhi 804th day function was held in Chennai on Monday! Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi distributed the trophies and shields to the cast and crew of the film. In his speech he praised Rajnikanth for being humble in spite of his great success! He stated that this quality is the reason behind Rajni's continued success! He also spoke about Rajni's popularity in Japan and admired his performance in Sivaji!
SuperStar Rajnikath thanked director P.Vasu and the producers Ramkumar and Prabhu for making the movie a grand success. He stated that "Karunanidhi was a standing example of tolerance and he has achieved success only after turning a deaf year to several criticisms against him!".
Kamal Haasan spoke about his good rapport with Rajnikanth!

Cinematographer Jeeva Passes Away!

Cinematographer-Director Jeeva(43) passes away due to acute cardiac arrest. This shocking incident happened while he was shooting for a Tamil movie titled Dhaam Dhoom starring Jayam Ravi in Russia. He has worked for more than 40 films including Shankar's Kadhalan, Gentleman and Indian. He has directed over 50 commercials. He is survived by his wife Anneesha and three children! May his soul rest in peace!
